You should make sure that your LCD TV is capable of being wall-mounted. There are some early models that were designed to just sit on a table. Most are VESA compatible so that you can use a variety of mounts.

When you buy an LCD TV wall mount to mount your flat screen TV on the wall or ceiling, you’ll find that most are VESA compatible so that you can use a variety of mounts by manufacturers such as OmniMount, Sanus, VideoSecu, Peerless, Atlona, Vantage Point and by TV manufacturers like Samsung and Panasonic.

The VESA compatibility means that the TV manufacturer made their TV so that a variety of wall mounts can be used instead of a proprietary type of mounting system. Most flat screen TVs adhere to this standard but you will want to check this out when purchasing a new TV.

The Flat Display Mounting Interface (FDMI), also known as VESA Mounting Interface Standard (MIS) or better known as “VESA mount”, is a set of standards defined by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) for mounting flat panel monitors, LCD TVs, and other displays to stands or wall mounts. The standard is implemented on most modern flat-panel TVs. Check for the VESA mounting specification on your flat panel TV.

Flat Display Mounting Interface Standard (FDMI)

FDMI is intended to provide industry standard mounting interfaces for Flat Displays (FDs) such as flat panel monitors, flat displays and TVs. This standard defines mounting interfaces for Flat Displays, corresponding standards for mounting device manufacturers and cable and cable connector location guidelines.

The FDMI was extended in 2006 with a collection of additional screw patterns that are more appropriate for larger TV screens.

The VESA/FDMI standard makes it possible to easily find a suitable stand or bracket for your LCD TV by knowing the screen dimension.

Virtually every LCD flat screen TV has the ability to be mounted on to a wall or a ceiling. Look for 4 screw holes on the rear of most screens. which are usually located near the middle of the screen (on smaller screens) and further apart on larger screens.

The most common VESA MIS spacings are:

MIS-D Mounting hole patterns in either of these patterns: 100 mm x 100 mm or 75 mm x 75 mm

MIS-E Mounting hole pattern of 200 mm x 100 mm

MIS-F Mounting hols spaced in 200 mm increments

Like we mentioned above, you should make sure that your LCD TV is capable of being wall-mounted. There are some early models that were designed to just sit on a table. Even if you don’t plan on wall mounting your LCD or plasma TV, you should still check that it’s VESA compatible in case you want to do that later or if you would someday sell your TV.

Wall mounting LCD TVs is a great idea where more floor area is required, which can not only be in homes but also restaurants, night clubs, sports bars, airports and bus terminals.

The new, large LCD TVs you see provide great, high resolution images that can be seen from almost any angle. Because of this.you can mount LCD TVs on walls or even ceilings. Wall mounting LCD TVs is a great idea where more floor area is required, which can not only be in homes but also restaurants, night clubs, sports bars, airports and bus terminals.

LCD TV wall mounts are special kinds of brackets which are made of metal. The first thing to think about when buying TV wall mounts should be the sturdiness. LCD TVs, being flat and compact are usually not too heavy but they’re, of course, pretty fragile. So you need to make sure the bracket and your wall or ceiling can handle the weight of the mount and LCD TV. You can find the weight limits of wall mounts on the packaging or specificaions that you find online. Many times, the manufcturer of your LCD TV will recommend manufactures of wall mounts that are suitable for their TVs.

The area where the TV will be mounted should be thoroughly inspected. A loose clamp would become looser with time and may cause an accident. Make sure the wall studs can handle the weight of the wall mount and TV.

If you are looking for a good LCD TV wall mount, choose one that’s not too big and low profile. It’s also a good idea to choose a wall mount that’s the same color as the wall in order to help hide it.

You will also want to plan on how your TV will be connected to the rest of your home theater components. Some people will simply install molding on the wall to help hide the wires, while most people will install a wall plate near the mounting point of the LCD TV that will allow the connectors to be run through the wal. This ensures a clean, clutter free look. Make sure this wiring is done to the proper electrical code in your area and consult an electrician if necessary. Power cords should not be run through the walls and most times a electrical outlet will be installed behind the TV in order to provide power to the TV. Using HDMI cables simplifies things by allowing both audio and HD video signals to be contained in just one cable.

Installing a LCD wall mount is not a small task but is definitely a task most home owners can tackle. Others may choose to have this work professionally done. Eiher way, mounting your LCD TV on the wall gives your room a nice, clean look while saving floor space and improving the viewing angle.
